László Szabó has been Director of REKK since 2018. He is an energy economist specialising in renewable energy, climate change policy and energy infrastructure development, with a PhD in economics. He previously held several positions in the Hungarian public administration and worked at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (IPTS). He has been coordinating REKK's regional and European research projects for more than ten years, focusing on energy sector developments, renewable technologies and their diffusion and infrastructure development. He teaches energy policy at the Corvinus University of Budapest.
